Excerpt:

"Thomas shuffled papers in front of him, wiped his brow, and took a sip of water. Chloe noticed his wrinkled shirt under an oversized brown checkered sport jacket with fraying cuffs. She had never met him, and she had only spoken to him once, when he had phoned her four weeks ago, asking her to join the board. She had tried to picture an older version of him from family photos of barbecues around the pool in 1972, the year he headed West, the year before she was born. Somehow, sitting near him now, she still expected dark bushy eyebrows and a dense mustache hiding a mischievous smile, but at 67, the young man from the photo was gone. Instead, his ashen face was furrowed with wrinkles, deep glabellar lines overshadowing sparse grey eyebrows. A thin white mustache and trimmed goatee encircled his chapped lips. From his slouched position, feeling the weight of this decision, his commanding voice signaled he was still in charge and ready for battle."
